  • Why Vet Med?

Growing up in Germany, I knew that becoming a Veterinary Technician was my path. After completing my training, I have worked in various settings, both in Germany and in Northern Canada in Yellowknife. I have worked in both small practices as well as large emergency clinics and have enjoyed a wonderful career in vet med for over 20 years now.

What is your favorite aspect of Vet Med?

I really enjoy working with the lab technology preparing samples and analyzing them. I also love working in a surgical setting.

What makes you happy when you’re not at work?

When not working, I can be found on the beautiful trails. As an avid wildlife photographer, I enjoy spending my free time in Nature.

  • Why Vet Med?

I have been a Registered Veterinary Technologist for over 18 years. During my early years in the veterinary industry, I was drawn to orthopedic issues and how to help make these types of surgeries a success. I completed the Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner course from the University of Tennessee in 2015 and have been dedicating my career to mobility and patient comfort ever since.

What aspect of Vet Med do you love most?

I am very passionate about Canine fitness and working with owners to help their canines reach their athletic goals. Whether it’s with agility, conformation and field trialing, or hunting dogs, I enjoy working with owners to design fitness programs specifically for their pets’ individual sports and goals.

What makes you happy when you’re not at work?

I live in Campbell River with my husband and two sons. You can find me either in the forest with my hiking pal Cruz the Golden Retriever or getting dirty in my garden.

  • Why Vet Med?

As an animal-crazy kid with a passion for science, Veterinary Medicine was a natural path for me. I went on to complete my Veterinary Technician training and graduated from Douglas College in 2009. I have always been amazed and inspired at the connections we create with our animals. Being able to help support their health and well-being has always been very rewarding for me.

What aspect of Vet Med do you love most?

One of my favorite things to do in the clinic is make beautiful bandages. It’s never fun to need a bandage, but if I can make it comfortable for your pet, and decorate it to put a smile on your face, it makes my day!

What makes you happy when you’re not at work?

My favorite hobbies are sewing and horseback riding!

  • Why Vet Med?

My passion for animals started at a young age. I loved them so much that I thought I could never work in the veterinary field until I started volunteering for a rescue organization that worked with remote communities in B.C. Participating in wellness clinics opened my eyes and heart to the human-animal bond, and I never turned back! I graduated from the Douglas College Animal Health Technology program and became a Registered Veterinary Technician in 2011.

What is your favourite aspect of working in vet med?

I love coming to work each day and taking care of the client’s beloved pets, whether in surgery or simply being the treat dispenser during an appointment. I enjoy getting to know people and learning about their bond with their pets. I have a soft spot for geriatric patients and am passionate about improving their quality of life as they age.

What makes you happy when you’re not at work?

I love trail running with my dog Barry and spending time with my husband and daughter.

Ever since I was little, I have had a love for animals. Not knowing if I could pursue a career in veterinary medicine, I furthered my post-secondary education in business. I completed my veterinary technician course through Thompson Rivers University’s distance program and graduated in 2022.

What is your favorite aspect of working invet med?

My favorite part about working in veterinary medicine is being able to make a difference in our patients’ and clients’ lives.

  • Why Vet Med?

When I was 18 I decided to volunteer at an animal sanctuary in Zimbabwe, and I was so inspired I knew that I needed to work with animals. Veterinary medicine seemed like the perfect fit for me. I have been working in the field for 9 years, I graduated as a vet tech from TRU in 2019 and then graduated as a CCRP (Certified Canine Rehab Practitioner) from the University of Tennessee in 2023.

What is your favorite aspect of working in vet med?

I love the bond between people and their pets and my role in being able to provide comfort and care for those loved fur babies. I also enjoy earning the trust of my patients and helping them feel more safe and secure in what can be a scary environment for animals. I also love learning and growing my skills and knowledge then being able to put them into practice and witness the successes.

What makes you happy when you’re not at work?

To some my home life might seem a bit chaotic, with my baby girl Penelope and my 4 fur babies (Denise, Nick, Morris, and Nula). To me, though, it is my happy place and makes my heart feel full. As a family, we love being outdoors in whatever capacity that looks like, be it hiking, swimming at the beach, or playing in the park.

  • Why Vet Med?
I’ve always been fascinated with all creatures great and small, which initially led me to study a career in the field of biological sciences. It wasn’t until I lived in Mexico and witnessed first-hand how animals suffer, when not given adequate medical attention, that I discovered my passion for vetmed. Upon returning to Canada, I decided that the best way to pursue this passion was to become a Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT). In 2023, I graduated from the Veterinary Technology program offered through Thompson Rivers University. As an RVT, I truly feel that I have found my purpose in life.

What is your favorite aspect of working invet med?
The most rewarding aspect of my job is working hands-on with patients during exams, while performing diagnostics, providing supportive care or monitoring them under anesthesia. I love being able to facilitate the bond that clients have with their pets and supporting them when they need it the most.

What makes you happy when you’re not at work?
I enjoy taking my dogs for walks, cuddling my cat and losing myself in a great book!

I enjoy all aspects of my work in the Vet Hospital, but my favorite thing to do is honestly just being with and caring for the animals.

What makes you happy when you’re not at work?
Outside of work you can find me dirt-biking, and playing basketball and rugby.

  • Why Vet Med?

My love for animals started at an early age growing up on a farm. As a youngster I was a member of 4H and really enjoyed the husbandry aspect of all of my projects which rooted my passion for health and care. I started as a receptionist in 2006 at a Veterinary Hospital and it was the best decision I ever made.

  • Why Vet Med?

When I was younger my family always had horses which ignited the love and passion for animals that I have today. I grew up spending my days outside with the horses, chasing the dogs around the yard, or cuddling whatever little fuzzy friend we had at the time. No matter the animal, my love for them only continued to grow as I did. As I got older, I began to focus on the medical side of animal care as well, which led me to ITVH!

    Favourite Aspect?

My favourite aspect about Veterinary Medicine is the fast paced environment and the ever changing day to day routine. You’re always in for a surprise when you walk through the doors in the morning. The amount of satisfaction and joy that helping each patient in our clinic brings is a feeling like no other.

    Outside of Work

When I’m not working, I love to spend time with my two dogs, Diesel and Harvest. These two keep my partner and I busy with exploring new trails in the valley, playing ball for hours, and cuddling up for a cozy weekend. Apart from being preoccupied by my two dogs, I also enjoy reading, journaling and writing stories, campfires, and spending time at the beach.

I feel fortunate to be part of a group that truly impacts the well-being of pets and their owners, and I’m grateful for every chance to contribute.

What makes you happy when you’re not at work?

Outside of work, I love spending time cooking, gardening, and spending time at the beach with my husband and our three kids. We share our home with two dogs, Harry the Newfoundland and his tiny sidekick Daisy, two cats, Mabel and Minou as well as seven chickens (Penny, Princess Fluffy-butt, Button, Cocoa, Dorothy, Bea, and Walnut).
